This is from the inventor of the original magnetic spice rack, see U.S. Patent # 6,318,569. Note that the rack is magnetic, not the spice jars or the bottle tops. You can load any spice jar, bottle, or can - less than 3 inches wide - on the rack without transferring the contents to a magnetic container.

The magnetic spice rack comes with steel washers and screws for attaching the magnets to a wooden surface. A friction strip is attached to prevent slipping. The bamboo shelf is constructed with finger-jointed corners for extra strength. It is easy to remove and replace the magnetic spice rack for cleaning and refilling.

Note that the weight capacity will vary with different manufacturers appliances according to the thickness of the steel and the qualities and thickness of the painted coatings. The magnets are only attracted to ferrous metals (ferrous metals contain iron or steel). Magnets do not stick to stainless steel because stainless steel is an alloy that does not contain iron. (that's why it does not rust). Likewise, aluminum, copper, and thick plastic coatings will not attract the magnets.
