Bamboo is actually a grass. From 1,200 - 1,600 varieties of bamboo exist. Incredible as it seems, bamboo grows up to four feet every 24 hours and that's about 2 inches per hour. It reaches full maturity three years from the time it is planted.
Some varieties grow to be nine or ten inches in diameter. Bamboo's tensile strength is stronger than a piece steel of a similar size and this strength increases with age, up to a certain point. Then it begins declining.
With such a vigorous growth rate, and since each bamboo plant can be harvested every three years without damage to the plant, this is one "wood" product that is a quickly renewing resource. By comparison, trees take decades to grow from seedlings.
To turn bamboo into "wood" the plant is cut above the node closest to the base of the plant to allow for re-growth. It is split apart so the interior membrane can be removed. Then soaking or steaming separates out all the sugars are from these strips. Finally they are laminated together to form boards which can be sanded, stained and otherwise utilized in the same way wood products are used.
In addition to a variety of materials, magnetic accessories for the kitchen come in all manner of shapes and sizes and functions. A magnetic tool holder can hold kitchen tools or heavy duty tools or just about anything that would fit into the holder. Remember, the rare earth magnets accommodate a fairly heavy load.
