What happened:

We bought a used shipping container for extra storage. Water leaked in the container! After a few months in the Florida sunny weather, we discovered the cases had a moisture problem which caused the zinc plating on the magnet assemblies to rust.

          
As you see, the cases of magnetic shelves got wet in spots where the bolts were in the floor of this container.  Some are a total loss, but most of them are only a slight bit rusty. What we are doing to fix them is to sand off the loose rust, then apply polyurethane over that area to seal it, then cover it with very thin packaging tape. Your appliance will be protected from rust marks by the tape. Please leave the tape in place and change it when needed.

 

 

We use poluyurethane to seal the rust then cover with the packaging tape.

 

Please leave the tape on, and replace when needed.

With the magnets sanded off, sealed, and the thin packaging tape applied, the products are good as new. 

 

The front side is not at all damaged and looks just perfect.

 

We now recommend using 2 inch wide package sealing tape to cover the magnet assemblies. This tape can be re-applied anytime it wears out. This tape is so thin and has very little effect on the capacity of the magnets. We have found that package sealing tape works better than the thin brown felt stickers we were using in the beginning.

 

As we plan to discontinue these zinc plated products, the new products will be nickel plated which is much better and longer lasting, although a bit more costly.
